Gurjaani Dumpsite has been closed according to international standards

25/09/2016 Closure works in old dumpsite of Gurjaani has been completed. Giorgi Shukhoshvili, the Director of state-owned ,, Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia Ltd, established under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure along with the Gurjaani Governor Givi Gergedze and the representative of the USAI,  visited the Gurjaani old dumpsite.

In the framework of the USAID- funded project “Waste Management Technologies in the regions” – Gurjaani municipal solid waste landfill closure plan has been developed. The plan aims to minimize the negative environmental impact on environment.

Gurjaani Municipal landfill, active since 2000, has been closed according to standards. In terms of closure work plan, the polygon surface formation has been reconstructed; waste has been covered with soil.

By that time, Gurjaani household waste is being delivered to landfills of Telavi and Dedoflitskaro.

Gurjaani municipal landfill closure project costs amounted to 329 998 GEL.
