Gurjaani Dumpsite will be closing according to international standards

18-06-2016 Giorgi Shukhoshvili, the Director of state-owned ,, Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia Ltd, established under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure along with the Deputy Head of the Gurjaani Municipality, Dimitri Kalatozishvili and the representatives of the company visited the Gurjaani old dumpsite, to check the final steps of the closing works.
In the framework of the USAID- funded project “Waste Management Technologies in the regions” – Gurjaani municipal solid waste landfill closure plan has been developed. The plan aims to minimize the negative environmental impacts in landfill.
Within the closure plan, Gurjaani Municipal landfill, active since 2000, will be closing according to standards. In terms of the closure works, the polygon surface formation will be reconstructed; waste will be covered with soil.
By that time, Gurjaani household waste is being delivered to landfills of Telavi and Dedoflitskaro.
Gurjaani municipal landfill closure project costs amounted to 329 998 GEL.
