“Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia”

Ltd. “Solid Waste Company of Georgia” was established on April 24, 2012 within the framework of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. The State is the only 100% share-holder of the company.

Nowadays, the Company owns and manages 52 landfills throughout the country (except Tbilisi and Autonomous Republic of Ajara).

The results of preliminary research showed that the state of the landfills on the Company’s balance was horrible: waste was being disposed unorganized at the landfills’ perimeter, operational standards have been neglected, no ecological and sanitary norms were observed, and control and sanitary supervision of the landfills’ perimeter was not followed. The landfills’ territories were not fenced, thus, the nearby population as well as domestic animals could easily reach the disposed waste, which raised a risk of infection contamination among the poultry, cattle and municipality population. As a result of all these, operation of the landfills was dangerous for the environment and nearby population.

As a result of the Company’s 3-year work, 21 municipal regional landfills were rehabilitated, 22 landfill perimeters were fenced, 16 units of tractors were purchased for advancing the landfills’ operations,  Bolnisi and Ninotsminda municipal landfills rehabilitation works are in progress, and projects on closure of 18 landfills and 6 landfills rehabilitation are being worked out.

Furthermore, two large international projects were launched, which implies construction of new international standards landfills for Imereti and Kvemo Kartli regions.

In addition, Ltd. “Solid Waste management Company of Georgia” conveyed waste-disposal vehicles and plastic and metal trash bins for the municipalities alongside the Black Sea on the basis of the Decree of the Government of Georgia.

Ltd. “Solid Waste management Company of Georgia” employed overall 789 persons on a regional level, out of which 628 were locals.
