Overhaul of Lagodekhi municipality landfill territory was completed. Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Giorgi Koberidze together with the Head of “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,” Ltd. Giorgi Shukhoshvili and local government officials observed the existing situation on the site.
Lagodekhi landfill has been operating since 2005. It receives 43.3 m3 daily from Lagodekhi municipality and its adjacent villages. Its total area covers 12,209 m2. As part of the rehabilitation project, landfill territory was confined, access road was arranged, lighting was installed and disposed waste was covered with isolation layer. In addition, loam soil was applied to the landfill ground. Rehabilitation works which employed 22 local inhabitants out of 26 workers in total, were financed by 229 000 GEL from state budget.
Lagodekhi landfill was handed to “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,” Ltd. In 14 June, 2013. At that time, it was a dumpsite which didn’t comply any ecological or sanitary norms and solid waste disposal on it used to take place in disorganized manner. Overhaul works resolved hygienic problems on the landfill.
