Renovation of Poti municipal landfill will be completed by the end of the ongoing year. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Davit Shavliashvili observed works undergoing on the site.
The goal of the project is to upgrade Poti municipal landfill to modern standards which occupies 55,185 square meters. 100 m3 solid waste is disposed daily on the landfill from Poti and its neighboring villages.Currently, an access road to dump site and soil dam are being constructed. In addition, site fencing and electrification is taking place. Solid waste placed on the landfill will be insulated. This will mitigate unfavorable sanitary conditions in the close-by area.
Poti landfill which has been operating since 1960 was handed to Ltd. Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia in July, 2014 for operation.
Ltd. Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia launched landfill renovation works immediately after taking over its management. The total cost of the projects is 539 700 GEL.
