20/09/2019- “The Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia” Ltd joined the annual international campaign “Clean Up the World”. The annual campaigns “Clean Up the World” and “World Cleaning Day” are being held during the third week of September. Large scale cleaning action was organized on the territory adjacent to the Tbilisi Sea area under the project ” Keep Georgia Tidy”. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia Ulrik Tidestrom, the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia, Kai Kaarelson and the chairperson of the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia, Nino Chkhobadze took part in the campaign. The Director of the SWMCG Giorgi Shukjhoshvili and other representatives of the company have joined the cleaning action.
The annual international cleanup campaign –“ Clean Up the World!” was initiated by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in 1992 and unites more than 130 countries, including Georgia. “Clean Up the World” campaign is carried out in Georgia as part of “Keep Georgia Tidy” project, with financial support of the Government of Sweden and implemented by NGO consortium “Keep Georgia Tidy” (KGT), Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis jointly with local and Swedish partner organizations and in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, LEPL “Environmental Information and Education Centre”, Solid Waste Management Company.
