Public Hearing was held online on Scoping Report of Kvemo Kartli Regional Non-Hazardous Waste Landfill construction

21/12/2020 – A public hearing was held on the Scoping Report of the new, regional non-hazardous waste landfill construction within the project of the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia – “Kvemo Kartli Solid Waste Management”.

Due to the current epidemiological situation, the public hearing on the Scoping Report was held online. Any member of the public had the right to be present at the hearing, to make remarks and opinions.

We would like to remind you that the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia is implementing the “Kvemo Kartli Solid Waste Management” project, which envisages the construction of a new, non-hazardous regional waste landfill for the Kvemo Kartli region in accordance with European standards. The new facility will serve more than 200 thousand residents of 5 municipalities in the region (Tetritskaro, Marneuli, Tsalka, Bolnisi, and Dmanisi). The municipalities will also be equipped for waste collection within the project, which will make the system more efficient and improve sanitation in the region.

The construction of the new landfill will create additional jobs for the local population. Existing landfills in the region will be gradually closed, which will significantly improve the environment and living conditions of the population.
The project is implemented by the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia with the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

You can submit written remarks and opinions related to the scoping announcement of the planned activity to the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia until December 25, 2020, at the following address: Tbilisi, Marshal Gelovani Avenue N6, or e-mail: Email address: eia@mepa.gov.ge.
