27/12/2021 – LTD “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia”, within the framework of
Integrated Solid Waste Management program II, introduced the Report on Environmental
Impact Assessment (EIA) Findings to NGO’s and the part of the population living near the
construction site of a new regional non-hazardous Waste Landfill for Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti

Representatives and consultants of the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia
informed the participants about all the key details that will be taken into account during the
project implementation, in order to the construction of a new, regional non-hazardous Waste
Landfill and further operation will be carried out in accordance with European and Georgian
standards.
According to this Report, all mitigation measures will be considered during the project
implementation, which will protect the environment, eliminate unpleasant odors, protect
groundwater from pollution and the construction of a new facility in the region will improve
sanitary-hygienic norms, as well as natural and social environmental conditions.
The Integrated Solid Waste Management program II includes the establishment of new, regional
non-hazardous Waste Landfills and the network of waste transfer stations for the Kakheti and
Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions, as well as the gradual closure of existing old landfills and
equipping the municipalities with special equipment for waste collection.
The project is currently being implemented with the financial support of the German Bank for
reconstruction (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau – KfW).
