New Regional Landfills to be Constructed in Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Samtskhe-Javakheti Regions

29/10/2019- The Director of “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia”, Giorgi Shukhoshvili signed an agreement with the consulting company COWI. The agreement was signed under the “Solid Waste Management – Central Georgia” project. The consultant company will carry out a feasibility study.

The main details of the project were discussed during the meeting. The “Solid Waste Management – Central Georgia” project includes constructing new regional landfills in Shida Kartli, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Samtskhe-Javakheti Regions in compliance with European standards, also the closure of old landfills and constructing waste transfer stations. The municipalities of the regions will be equipped with technical resources. The project will help to improve ecologic and living conditions and form a new, modern solid waste management system.

The project is financially supported by EBRD and KfW.

Construction of landfills is planned in 2023-24.
