Building Public Support for the Selection of Waste Disposal Sites

06/02/2020 – The meeting was held under “Integrated Solid Waste Management Program II”. Participants of the meeting were representatives of “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia”, Consultants of International Projects and invited Guests. The main goal of the meeting was sharing experience between consultants of different International Projects of SWMCG and planning of future activities.

Sides have discussed the main challenges reveled in the waste disposal sites selection process and public support building necessity in this process.

Representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and KfW Development Bank have participated in the discussion during the meeting.

In frames of “Integrated Solid Waste Management Program II” two new regional landfills and waste transfer stations will be constructed in Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regions, old municipal landfills will be closed and Municipalities will be equipped with special waste collecting equipment. Implementation of this project will facilitate to form a new solid waste management system and improve ecologic and living conditions for the population. The program is being implemented with the financial support of KfW.
