Today the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mr. David Narmania, Deputy Minister Mr. Shota Murghulia and the Director of the Solid Waste Management Company Giorgi Shukhoshvili met the representatives of KFW in Kutaisi. The representatives of the administrations of municipalities of Imereti region were invited to attend the meeting also.
At the meeting the Minister and guests have been fully informed about planned construction works of a new landfill. Solid Waste Management Company also presented his own plan on how to solve the problem of existing landfill, before completion of construction of the new modern landfill.
Construction of the new landfill will begin in 2014 and will serve as Imereti as Racha – Lechkhumi regions. According to the project, to build four transportation stations is planned, from where the solid waste will be transported to the central landfill.
Interests of the local population will be fully provided during the construction process. According to the project, the landfill will be 1.5 kilometers away from the houses of population, which is fully compliant with international standards. In addition, arrangement of the green pavement is planned, which will create additional safe environment for local residents.
Within the frameworks of the project, for 2015, conservation of the old so-called Nikea landfill, and instead of it, construction of the new recreation place.
However, before beginning of construction of the new landfill, the Solid Waste Management Company together with KFW will regulate the old one.
Construction of the new landfill will begin in 2014 and be completed by the end of 2015.The project will eventually solve the problem of the landfill of Kutaisi.
