Rehabilitation of Poti municipal landfill is completed. First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, George Amashukeli, the director of “Solid Waste Management Company”, George Shukhoshvili and the representatives of local authorities inspected implemented works.
The area of the local municipal landfill is 55185 square meters and the waste, with volume about 100 meter/cube per day, enters there. The landfill was given to the “Solid Waste Management Company” on 26 June of last year. At the time, it did not meet environmental and health standards;
In coordination with the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, “Solid Waste Management Company” carried out construction-rehabilitation works on the landfill. Under the project the landfill was fully equipped. The area of landfill was fenced; waste was covered by an insulating layer. At present, the object is fully electrified.Planting of the territory was carried out – 50 species of cypress saplings were planted on the place. After starting of operation of the renewed landfill, according to current standards, the waste reception and transfer will be determined to the specially designated cells.
The project cost was 539 700 GEL and was funded from the state budget. 22 people were employed on the rehabilitation works and 20 of them are local.
