Minister of Regional development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Davit Shavliashvili together with the Head of Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia inspected Kaspi municipal waste landfill overhaul works. Within last two years 8 landfills were refurbished and 11 more will start operating by the end of the year. According to up-to-date standards, waste on Kaspi landfill will be placed in special cells. On the project which cost 448,000 GEL 35 Georgian citizens are employed.
The landfill in question has been operating since 1980. It covers 75.000 m2. 46 m3 waste from Kaspi and its neighboring villages is added daily. Initially, Kaspi municipality landfill was not confined and its waste used to scatter around. There was no control and sanitary inspection in place. After the landfill starts operating, the above mentioned problems will be resolved.
