“Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,” Ltd. is carrying out rehabilitation works on the state municipal landfill in Marneuli city. Today, Mr. Giorgi Koberidze, the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Mr. Giorgi Shukhoshvili, the director of “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,” and Mr. Merab Tofchishvili, the governor of Marneuli Municipality together with the representatives of local self-government visited the site.
For years, the landfill operated in no compliance with the operation standards and thus, presented serious ecological and sanitary problems for the local population. Since the landfill was conveyed to the ownership of the “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,” on the basis of the case study, rehabilitation project was designed and the corresponding rehabilitation works have started. Upon completion of the ongoing works, the rehabilitated landfill will be safe in terms of health and environmental security and its operation will prevent the harmful impacts of the waste upon local population.
The Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the director of “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,” and the governor of Marneuli Municipality have also visited the site for a new euro-standards municipal regional landfill that is planned to be constructed for 2015-2018 years.
