01/13/2017 The new Waste Transfer station arrangement has been completed. It works for the Municipal landfills of Manglisi and Tsalka. “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia” Ltd in coordination with the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure has accomplished the Manglisi and Tsalka landfill closure works in compliance with the EU Standards and arranged Transfer Stations. Giorgi Shukhoshvili, the Director of the Company and Zurab Alavidze, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure together with the representatives of local self-government visited the Municipal landfill of Manglisi and Tsalka to check on the works being carried out. The Municipal landfill of Tsalka and Manglisi was transferred to the possession of Ltd. “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia” in 2013. At the time, the state of the landfill was horrible; the waste was being disposed of but not organized at the landfill perimeter, operational standards had been neglected, no ecological and sanitary norms were observed, and sanitary supervision of the landfill perimeter was not controlled. The landfill territory was not fenced, thus, the nearby population as well as domestic animals could easily reach the disposed waste on the landfill territory, which raised a risk of infection and contamination among the poultry, cattle and municipality population. As a result of all this, operation of the landfill was dangerous for the environment and nearby population. “Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia” Ltd has implemented closing works of old Manglisi and Tsalka municipal landfill in compliance with the standards and arranged a waste transfer station in Toneti village (district of Tetritskaro). Household waste from rural areas will be collected and compressed in big containers, and then transported regularly to the next rehabilitated landfill. Waste transport stations meet the standards regulated by the law.
The Waste transfer station project was financed by the state budget. The Project cost amounted to 427 933 Georgian Lari. During the visit, special machinery equipment for Waste transportation was given to the Kvemo Kartli Region by Zurab Alavidze – the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. With the financial support of The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) waste trucks have been purchased by the Municipal development fund of Georgia. Within the project, 17 waste trucks will be delivered to The Kvemo Kartli region
