23/09/2019- Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia Ltd is planning to construct new regional Landfills in Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions. The project is financially supported by KfW Development Bank. The Director of SWMCG Giorgi Shukhoshvili held kick-off meeting with implementation and accompanying measure consultant companies of Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme II. The Representatives of KfW attended the meeting too.
The implementation consultant of the project is CDM Smith and the accompanying measure consultant is the company, Fichtner.
The main details of the project were discussed during the kick-off meeting. The consultant companies will assist SWMCG in strengthening regional offices and developing the new solid waste management system in Municipalities.
Two new regional landfills will be constructed and the old one closed in frames of Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme II (Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regions). The project also includes constructing new waste transfer stations and equipping municipalities with technical resources.
Implementation of this project will facilitate to form a new solid waste management system and improve ecologic and living conditions.
Construction of the landfills is planned in 2021-2023.
