Municipalities of Kakheti received the necessary equipment for waste collection and cleaning

29/06/2023 – The Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia (SWMCG) under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, within the framework of the “Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme II ”, provided 10 units pickup trucks, 23 units of waste collection cars equipped with press(7 m³ and 13 m³) to the municipalities of the Kakheti region.

The event was attended by Mzia Giorgobiani, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Lydia Klismann, Representative of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Zugdidi, Birgit Holderied-Kreß, Director of the Office of the German Reconstruction Credit Bank (KfW) in Georgia, Giorgi Shukhoshvili, Director of the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia,Giorgi Aladashvili, Governor of Kakheti region and representatives of local government.

Under the “Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme II ”, special cars, trucks, containers and uniforms were gradually transferred to 17 municipalities of the Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions; 72 units of waste collection equipment and 12,005 units of containers and bins of various capacities were handed over to the municipalities.

Within the framework of the program, the municipalities of the Kakheti region (Kvareli, Akhmeta, Gurjaani, Telavi, Lagodekhi, Sagarejo, Signagi, Dedoplistskaro) received 35 units of special equipment for waste collection and 5,703 containers.The transferred equipment for waste collection will help to improve the waste management system in the regions.

The project is currently being implemented with the financial support of the German Bank for reconstruction (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau – KfW) on behalf of the German government. Total budget for Kakheti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions is up to 6,800,000 euros.
