11/10/2022 – Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regional working group meeting was held within the framework of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Program II (ISWM II). The meeting was attended by Giorgi Shukhoshvili, the director of the Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia, representatives of the German Bank for Reconstruction (KfW), consulting companies implementing the program, and the municipalities of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.
The participants discussed the methodology for calculating the costs of waste removal and cleaning in municipalities, developed within the framework of the program.
The Integrated Solid Waste Management Program II (ISWM II) is being implemented with financial support from the German Bank for Reconstruction (KfW) within the framework of the German Financial Cooperation in Georgia, and includes the arrangement and equipping of a new regional non-hazardous waste landfill and transfer stations in the Samegrelo Zemo Svaneti region. As well as closing existing old landfills in accordance with standards and equipping municipalities with street sweeping equipment and waste collection.
During the visit in Georgia, representatives of the German Bank for reconstruction will visit the territories intended for the new regional non-hazardous waste landfill and transfer stations to be built in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. At the current stage of the project, it is also planned to transfer the purchased special equipment for waste collection.
