12/11/2024 – As part of the Kvemo Kartli Solid Waste Project, representatives of Solid Waste Management Company of Georgia, members of the monitoring committee, and representatives of the local population of Tetritskaro Municipality visited the new non-hazardous landfill in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
The main goal of the visit was to inform the local population living near the site of the new regional non-hazardous landfill in Kvemo Kartli about the project.
Participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the standards, technologies, and operational procedures of the new facility, which are designed to protect both the environment and human health. Locals were able to ask questions and receive detailed answers from experts.
Eleonora Gurchiani – representative of Tsintskaro village in Tetritskaro Municipality and head of the Community “Fund Kodori 2013”, shared her impressions:
“I am very interested in this project and have attended several meetings to receive information. One of my initiatives was to visit an already constructed facility, and I am very satisfied. I did not expect to see such a well-organized site. I really liked it, and I believe that a similar facility will be built in our region as well.”
As part of the Kvemo Kartli Solid Waste Project, a new regional non-hazardous landfill is being constructed in compliance with international standards. The facility will serve the municipalities of Tetritskaro, Marneuli, Bolnisi, Dmanisi, and Tsalka. With the establishment and proper equipment of this modern facility, the region will see significant improvements in environmental conditions and living standards, as well as the creation of new jobs for local residents.
The project is being implemented with financial support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
