According to the initiative of the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, David Shavliashvili clean-up of the coastline was held in Ureki. Director of “Solid Waste Management Company,” George Shukhoshvili, governor of Guria region, Giorgi Chkhaidze and the local governor of Ozurgeti municipality, Merab Chanukvadze took a part in the event. The staff of “Solid Waste Management Company,” governor’s administration and local administrative officials were involved in the action as well. The action began on August 27 and will last for 3 days.
Due to lack of trash bins and adequate sanitation places, residents had to dump rubbish in the river bed, as a result of which Ureki faced with the environmental problems. The problem was becoming more important during the sea season, as tourists often leave food waste along the coast. The local clean-up service could not finish in time to empty the waste bins placed along the coast and to remove the debris from the shoreline. With the help of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ltd “Solid waste management company” was actively engaged in the process of solution this problem. Ureki was provided with additional garbage bins, and a special technique that provides removing of the debris from the coastline three times a day.
“Solid waste management company,” plans conservation of the landfill of Ureki in accordance with European standards. Local authorities will place the information-banners on the coastal strip and will toughen control.
